Great
Games You May Not Have Played
Some are small press, some aren't.
Take a look, though.
They're all worth playing!
- Anagramania: I sure hope I
spelled that right! Anagramania is a game based on anagrams. I
was a bit skeptical at first, but give it a try. It's a lot
of fun to play. The anagrams aren't nearly as difficult as they seem,
and it's incredibly rewarding when you're the first one to
solve the clue.
- Battle
Cry: This one is a lot of fun, and a fantastic introduction
to historic miniatures - a style of game that not enough
people have had a chance to play. Designed by Richard Borg,
and you know it's going to be fun just because of that.
- Brainstrain: Sounds
painful, but it's really a great party game. We played it in
the Toy Fair booth, and it had everyone laughing. If you can
enjoy a party game in a booth at a trade show, you know it'll
do great at an actual party! I haven't tried Fabrication (their
other game), but based on Brainstrain, I'd say give it a try
as well.
- Chebache: This is a tough
one to describe. If you like abstract strategy, you owe it to
yourself to check this out. I played it with Scott (the
inventor) at Connolly's. He crushed me, but it was still a blast.
- Gamepuzzles.com: A
great site for anyone who enjoys high quality puzzles.
- Mozaic: A very
interesting game by Martin Samuel of Games Above Board.
- Mindfield:
I don't play very many trivia games. It's just not a genre I
play too often. Having said that, there are some really fun and
interesting trivia games out there. If you're a history buff
(particularly military history), you've got to check out Mindfield!
- Smirk & Dagger
games:
A different sort of game company from what I usually recommend
- not really in the "family game category". Hex Hex
is a lot of fun. Some of their "upcoming"
games are sure-fire winners as well.
